Friends in Motion

Mark your calendars now for Saturday, June 14th! F & M will celebrate 90 years of service to our community that day, and will provide a late afternoon lunch to our customers in the East Park from 4PM to 6 PM. There will be games for the kids, and entertainment for everyone. In case of rain, we’ll move our celebration to the B-PC High School. Watch the newspaper for additional details.

The B-PC High School’s most-improved senior for the third quarter was Holly English. Keep up the good work, Holly!

Dale and Twila Havens of Bushnell celebrated 65 years of marriage recently, while Gene and Joann Hickenbottom of Bushnell and Jack and Phyllis Sublett of St. Augustine celebrated their 50th, and Kenny and Judy Maxwell of Bushnell celebrated their 40th! Bushnell residents Doris Frank and Josephine Formhals celebrated their 90th birthdays, while Bessie Payne celebrated her 85th! Congratulations!

Your participation in spring clean-up days on June 9, 10, and 11 in Bushnell will make you proud of your property and make our community more appealing to visitors traveling through town. It’s a lot of hard work, but your individual efforts are appreciated! Let’s all help beautify Bushnell!

Our own Janelle (and husband Marty) Friday delivered a beautiful 6 pound baby girl, Allison Jolee, on March 19th. Congratulations Janelle and Marty on your new little miracle!

Bushnell’s VFW Post #1422 continuously collects slightly used items, (clothes, shoes, books, etc.) that are then cleaned, sorted and boxed by volunteer, Kenneth Ford. The items are transported by volunteers twice a year to the Quincy Veteran’s Home for further distribution nationwide. Your donations would be greatly appreciated!

RETIRED!!

Bushnell-Prairie City Schools will put another class of graduates into the real world this month. It will also see two principals, Steve Russell and Jerry Merrick, retire from their administrative capacities at B-PC Schools. Both men have dedicated years of service to the school system and the community.

Mr. Russell, originally from Oak Lawn, came to Bushnell in 1970 after graduating from Western Illinois University. He began as the elementary PE teacher, became assistant principal of East Elementary in 1980, and principal in 1981. Steve also organized and directed the community’s recreation program for many years.

Steve and wife, Jeannine, have two children, Brent (and Carrie) Russell and Bridget (and Travis) Hiel, and four wonderful grandchildren, Drake and Ashtyn Russell and Jonny and Jax Hiel.

Mr. Merrick, originally from Springfield, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school graduation, and while stationed in England met his wife, Anna. Following his military career, Jerry graduated from Illinois State University in 1970, and joined B-PC High School as a social studies teacher. In 1981 he became the high school principal, and will retire from that position this summer.

Jerry and Anna have two children, Debra (and Mike) Sorrill and Jerry Jr. (and Heidi) Merrick, and two grandchildren, Alicia and Daniel Sorrill. Grandchild number three is expected to arrive this fall according to Jerry Jr. and Heidi!!

Farmers and Merchants State Bank would like to thank Mr. Russell and Mr. Merrick for their many years of service to our school system, and wish them good luck in their retirement.

Let Us Re-Introduce . . . Peggy Weiss!!!
