IT'S TIME FOR A VACATION!!

School is now out of session and you’re planning your family vacation. With good planning you may even be able to take that vacation every year.

Do you prefer a camping getaway, or a month-long cruise? How are you going to pay for it? If you do not have the funds immediately available, stop by the Farmers and Merchants State Bank loan department and visit with Patricia, Doug or Don. They can help you apply for a loan so you can relax and enjoy your vacation.

Now is also the time to consider a pre-paid vacation for next year. Open an interest-bearing Vacation Club today and make weekly or monthly deposits of $10, $20, $50 or more. You will receive a check next May, just in time to pay for your 2004 vacation! It will be so much more relaxing knowing your vacation bills won’t be waiting for you when you come back home! Stop by the F & M bookkeeping department and ask Susan, Debbie, Becky, Missy or Kathy to set up your account.

Next year when you receive your Vacation Club check, you may decide to skip your vacation. If so, you have money available to pay your real estate taxes or make home improvements. Start planning now and enjoy!!

Friends in Motion

Farmers & Merchants State Bank adopted Mrs. Gayla Sullivan’s first grade class this year, and our own Betsy Powell, Connie Morrow, Carolyn Carr, Shirley Rapp, Becky White, Kathy Danner, Mike Steelman and Ruth Ann McGrew read to the class throughout the year. The books that were read were selected and then donated to the classroom library. Thanks to each of you for volunteering your time to read!

Peddlin’ around Bushnell paid off as the “Dr. Daves” ran away with top honors - - again - - at the Peoria Sr. Olympics bicycle race held in May!! Yes, Dave Jameson, D.D.S. won the 5K and 10K time trial for his age group, and David Balfour, O.D. won both time trials overall!! Doc Jameson, also an avid runner, picked up 3 gold and 3 silver medals in the Track and Field division, and qualified in three running events for the National Sr. Olympics to be held in the state of Virginia. Congratulations, Dave and Dave!!

Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’. Another winner at the Peoria Sr. Olympics was George Pensinger, 91, of Marietta. He won the gold medal in the 90-94 age group in bowling with a 478 series, setting a new record!! Keep it up, George!

Robert (Barney) and Marilyn Martin of Bushnell and Bill and Hazel Hopkins of Marietta recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, while Richard and Edith Suter of Bushnell celebrated their 40th. We hope you each enjoy many more happy years together.

Holly English was named the Most Improved Senior for the third quarter at B-PC High School. Keep up the good work, Holly.

Congratulations to Nick Doll and Laci Ebbert, this year’s B-PC Prom King and Queen! The evening will surely be one of your favorite high school memories! The other court attendants included our own April Fisher, Nicole Hyde, Ashley Ackers, Kendall Hammond, Jeremiah Jones and Derek King.

The James L. Spiker scholarship winners from B-PC schools this year were Megan Cramblet and Derek King. Congratulations!!

Former Bushnell residents, Monte and Lisa Pryor of Augusta (parents of our own Sherry Pico), were recently featured in the Hancock County Journal-Pilot. In 1998 they purchased a home built by William Dexter (one of Augusta’s first bankers) circa 1857. The home sat empty for nearly 20 years and was badly in need of repairs after being inhabited with bats and raccoons. Lisa and Monte have become experts applying faux finishes on their walls. Lisa also learned of a ‘faux marble’ finish that was prevalent in the 1800’s, by reading history books, and successfully applied the finish to several of the fireplaces and a sink. They’re extremely proud of their renovated historical home and are happy to show it off to visitors.

REVIEW YOUR HEIRS ANNUALLY!

Life altering events happen every day of every year to someone. Are you that ‘someone’? And is your life in order?

From the time you become an adult and are out in the ‘real world’, events can and will occur to make you change your mind on decisions with which you previously were comfortable. These events, including marriage, divorce, births and death, should prompt you to review designations of beneficiaries in your will, on life insurance policies and retirement accounts.

As events occur in your life, your preferences may change. You may start a new business, inherit a fortune from your wealthy unmarried aunt, or win the lottery. Imagine the shock and displeasure of your spouse and children if your former spouse receives a large portion of your estate because you failed to change beneficiaries.

Tax laws are another reason to update your will and review your personal situation. You may want to consult legal counsel and consider a trust or revise your will. If you have minor children and do not yet have a will, you should have an attorney prepare your will and name a guardian for your children. It would be heartbreaking for your surviving spouse to go to court because you failed to organize your life, create a will, and provide for your family.

You can even retain control of your money, in a way, after you pass away. Seek legal counsel and create a trust. You can name Farmers and Merchants State Bank as Trustee. Betsy Powell and Shirley Rapp, the bank’s assistant trust officers, will professionally administer your trust according to your wishes.

Let Us Re-Introduce . . . Becky White!!!

Becky White became began working at F & M six years ago, after working 28 years at Glash Drug Store. Becky began as the bank’s receptionist, worked in Trust-Mart, and currently is the Asst. Cashier. She also served as the Hall of Fame trip coordinator for several years.

Born in Casey, Illinois, to Gerald and Helen Hurt (now residents of Tuscola), Becky and her family moved to Bushnell in 1964 and she graduated from B-PC High School. She and husband, Bob, have two daughters, Shawna (and Kerry) Yocum and Kim (and Brian) Wohlfeil who also reside in Bushnell.

When not working Becky doesn’t let any grass grow under her feet! She’s either walking, reading, golfing or traveling. Becky is active in the Bushnell Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Shaw Creek Golf Board. In addition, she spends a lot of time with her grandsons Trey and Devin Yocum, and Logan and Kanann Wohlfeil, and is planning a summer vacation this year with the boys!
